Jane Whitefield thinks she has performed her final rescue - removing Pete Hatcher from Las Vegas before his casino owning bosses decide he is more of a liability than an asset. With the help of a magician, Jane whisks Pete out of Vegas and to Denver. He’s there safe for three months, but he gets anxious - and breaks one of Jane’s rules. Pete buys a gun - which  alerts Linda and Earl, the two hired guns that the casino has pursuing him, as to his location.
It’s the 1990’s - so when Hatcher calls Jane from the phone in his Denver apartment - Linda is able to trace the number to a location in New York - eventually leading her to Carey McKinnon, Jane’s long time boyfriend and new husband.
Linda and Earl split up - Linda to New York to find “the woman” and Earl to track Pete. Now we have Jane helping Pete Hatcher get out of the Rocky Mountains and Linda tracking Carey while looking for Jane. In the meantime, Dennis Seaver the casino security chief, has left town to try to find Linda and Earl. Everyone is looking for someone - innocent people die - the bad guys die - and Jane saves another one.
I didn’t like Pete Hatcher - partly because I didn’t understand what he knew that was so incriminating. Plus - he was a little whiney.

Perry knows how to work suspense and I love Jane Whitefield as a protagonist. I'm making my way through the series and recommend these to anyone who enjoys a good mystery/thriller/suspense novel.

REALLY didn't like the Carey/marriage subplot. Neither the character not the relationship was well enough developed to be believable. The first two were good enough that I'll keep reading in the hopes that they either get better or get bumped off.
