I never leave one star reviews. I only read this because my work book club is reading it. Zero character development. No suspense. Not one likeable character. It was a quick read so I'm happy I didn't waste too much time reading it. If it weren't for book club it would be my first DNF in a very long time.

Absolutely not.
Not this being one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
If it wasn’t for a bookclub pick, I would’ve DNF’d it.

I very much enjoyed the book but was a touch annoyed when there was small errors in the book like how Janet has catholic parents but then she has a single drunken mother or the fact that it the murder occurred on the 21st at Thursdays but also referred to as Friday but aside from that I enjoy the intensity at the end

MASSIVE WARNING: the author is very fatphobic and as a plus size person this book was VERY hard to get through.
The author does not use any other descriptions of people except fat ones (ex: chubby hands; overweight man; flabby arms; large hips) so we literally only know the color of some people’s hair and which characters are fat. It reads very much as an inherent bias as these descriptions do nothing to add to the plot.
She also has a character call another’s lady son a “hood rat” and demonizes the only adopted child in the book as if being adopted by miserable people isn’t already traumatic enough.

Moderate: Body shaming and Fatphobia
