What a wonderful powerful story.

If you can listen to the audiobook book Narrated by John F. Callahan, Charles Johnson, and Joe Morton, it is fabulous.

I can feel the love between the two men, and the tension of American, in feeling like You don’t have the right to stand up and ask American to change, but that you can stand up and push the country down the path of entrenching its status quo.

Truly an unfinished book. If you haven't read Ellison's Invisible Man, read that instead.

3+. So. Many. Layers. I think it requires more than one reading.

This was not an easy read, but it was a worthy read. Because of the shifting view points, the narrative order, stream of consciousness and dream description, it makes it a hard novel to really understand what is going on. But once you get the hang of it, the story and symbolic meaning comes in full force. This started out as a 2 star, then a 3 star and finally I would say it is more like a 3.5 for me. I wish this was a finished work and maybe it would have been more polished. But overall a beautiful work.
