This book was fast paced and simply written. That make it lack description or depth at certain points. I didn’t even know what the main character really looked like. Maybe for a reason... This book turned out differently than I expected. I don’t regret reading this, but I doubt I will find myself revisiting this one.

good feminist realistic fiction. i expected more from the writing but i guess it may be either a lost in translation thing or she’s just a very mediocre writer. 3 stars for the feminist premise.

My only complaint about this book was the pacing of the conclusion. After so much build up explaining the aspects of society that lead to Jhumur being trapped in her marriage, the three-years-later resolution felt very cursory and rushed. Still really glad I read this because it was an interesting view into a part of the world I know little about.
