The illogical thinking and the wild assumptions made by both women characters made this so painful and the topic is just so heavy. This is just not enjoyable nor does it give you much to think about. I think it would’ve been better if the author included Hank’s POV, who is by far the best and most interesting character. He seems to be the only one who is having to make hard choices and who isn’t completely insane.  We get a taste of his perspective in the epilogue and it is the best part of the book by a long shot.

I considered DNFing, but I stuck it out because usually Freida’s twists are worth it in the end…

The twists here were pretty predictable. I wasn’t sure if
Polly, Hank, or Sadie would kill Mitch, but I knew he’d die and they’d adopt her. I also thought pretty early on Polly and Tegan would save each other or come to some kind of mutually beneficial understanding. The only true surprise was that the brother was in on it, but I got the ick early on from him the moment he and his sister talked about giving each other foot massages… 🤮🤮🤮🤮
And I’m sorry, but the way she “heard” her baby’s voice and called it Tuna weirded me out too… 🤷🏻‍♀️

After reading “Ward D” by Frieda McFadden, I was excited for this book.
However, this book took a completely different style than the last, which is fine if you’re expecting a night and day difference.
It could just be my viewpoints, but the reason this book gets such a low score for me is because the plot actually made me angry, to the point where I almost stopped reading a couple times. And not a “no way the author did that” as a way to keep the reader zoned in, but genuinely mad at the idea of the plot and how this could be considered a “good read”.
