emily henry i will name my first born after you. you single handedly got me back into romance i love you girl.
i just knew they were going to use the title at the end and i was so happy when it happened, i still am happy hours after finishing the book. this is now my favourite emily henry books, she dethroned book lovers without even a fight.

I liked this one. The declaration of love at the end was so sweet. I hated the classic third act break up, but Emily Henry continues to write romance books that I actually want to read. I love that she fleshes out other characters including the parents. People we meet on vacation remains my favorite though.

A simple & nice romcom.
I'm relieved especially because Happy Place felt like such a deviation in quality from the other Emily Henry books I loved so much, which made me a bit skeptical and nervous to dive back into her writing.
Not being a stoner myself nor interested in the Fake Dating Trope, it was hard to relate to the characters. But for what it was, it was decently done and didn't go too far.
Nitpick: I really disliked how Ashleigh (heroine's new friend) was Persian but in no way does it show or treat her as such other than telling us she is Persian in a throwaway comment. It felt unbelievable and lazy. Her name isn't Persian, her home has no Persian elements, her interest in drinks/food aren't Persian - there's literally nothing to connect her to my Persian culture, to the point that fancasts online have forgotten she's meant to be of that ethnicity & cast her as white, East Asian or Black. Why even bother at that point to just mention she's Persian once then (especially when we know everything else about her & her life in detail)?
I am also noticing more & more that Henry's characters across different books have lots of simplistic similarities in the way they communicate. Many don't stand out from one another. But it's not a huge deal.
I like the ending of what happened to the exes, but I'm petty.
Again, Fake Dating Trope isn't catered for me, so it makes sense this book (& Happy Place) isn't my fave of hers, but in Emily Henry we trust. Or hope. So it was good enough.
Now, I'm no longer nervous to read her latest work, Great Big Beautiful Life. YAY!
