Emily Henry

4.3 AVERAGE

Just devoured Emily Henry's newest release, Funny Story, which came out on the 23rd. Here's my take:

This story is pure fun, with a hilarious clash of personalities. Miles, the "sappy happy mess," is the complete opposite of Daphne, the driven "let's get things done" type. Their worlds collide when Daphne's fiancé dumps her for Miles' girlfriend, leading them to an unexpected living situation.

Henry weaves pop culture references throughout the novel, with a heavy dose of sad music (think Adele) that will have you reaching for your rom-com movie playlist (Bridget Jones's Diary gets a special shout-out!). This book was definitely a 4/5 for me. I absolutely loved it.

If "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac was a rom com book.... The FMC had such a refreshing change at the end of the book and did not revert back to the same ways and actually saw the character growth through. Great Job Emily Henry!

At first I was skeptical of this book. Maybe because of the premise that the FMC and the MMC start fake dating because of their respective exes. But I shouldn’t have doubted Emily Henry’s way of bringing these two characters together beautifully and honestly, and this has to be my favorite of her books so far! Miles is probably one of the best men she has ever written, and I love Daphne and him together.

I truly think that Emily Henry is one of the best contemporary writers on romance of our age. She has a way of drawing you into the story with complex characters, sharing relatable struggles, and giving hope to the reader that maybe we, too, can overcome and fight for what we decide is worth fighting for.

Too early to call it, but this might be my favorite book of 2025.

wow I’ve never felt more seen than by Daphne’s inner dialogue and perspective on making and keeping friends and relationships…

finished in 1 day. good romance, good characters. could flesh out the ML a bit more but that’s me being picky. overall feel good romcom but nothing that ~changed my life~…very booktok coded but remarkably better written than most books in a similar market
