Okay there’s a bunch of great things about this book.

1. The banter is amazing
2. Phenomenal grumpy-sunshine!
3 a fantastic road trip journey
4. Really great wonky side trips
5. The resolution

But other things were so frustrating!

1. Millie is so frustrating with, what she says herself, is “willfull misunderstanding.” It’s too much, and it’s the WHOLE BOOK of her being like “hey this is how this person is acting” and then saying “but I’m sure they’re not being truthful/misleading me/im not understanding” and it really took me out of it (probably because I was listening?)
2. The third act breakup. I listened and things were going well with 1.5 hours left and I knew I was in for it. I really was so frustrated by how this all went down.

So yeah, overall really enjoyed but the things that didn’t work for me nearly overshadowed the fun and emotion.

Tender and heartwarming! I will say the MC drove me up a wall (and was quite insufferable) for about 80% of the book. The other characters, situation, setting etc were all magnificent - other than the MC.

I did enjoy the road trip vibes of the novel and the fact that it  had characters that aren't your typical golden retriever types. I wish the romance between Elsie and Rose had been developed a little more because there were times that I lowkey forgot why Millicent was going to Key West in the first place. Hollis being a little shady fit with his character but I still wasn't sure how they got from begrudging car buddies to sex buddies less than five days of being in each other's presence. That was ... odd. I also was a little confused on how people kept recognizing Millie despite the fact that she was only on one kid's show. I feel like that was a little too unrealistic / far fetched.

I can’t fully explain why this was a five star read for me. I can acknowledge that there’s potentially some minor flaws but it just made me like gooey inside. That’s the best way I can describe it. I loved loved loved reading about Hollis and Millie’s love. I just absolutely gobbled it up. And there’s so many tropes in here that I adore: grumpy/sunshine, one bed, a dash of fake dating (for a scene or two), “famous”/regular person dynamic. It was just delicious. And the way Hollis was able to meet all of Millie’s idiosyncrasies with love after she hadn’t felt that with Josh just made me melt.

Warning: there is a 3rd act breakup, BUT they are together for much of the book so it doesn’t feel like as much of a roller coaster. And I was so pleased with how we solved the fight that I was giddy by the last page of the book.

Just adored this one.

P.S. The Rose/Elsie love story side by side with the grief of Millie was also beautifully handled and I loved reading about that too. As an added bonus. ❤️

If you like women’s fic OR romance with steamy sex scenes, a grumpy hero and sunshine heroine, and a sapphic historical subplot IN KEY WEST told through a dual timelines, which is literally all I want in a romance novel, READ MRS. NASH’S ASHES. TODAY.
