As I was reading this book I kept doubting that this was really a trilogy. As it got closer and closer to the end I couldn't see how it was all going to wind up by the end so I was pleasantly surprised that Sanderson was able to do just that and I found the ending satisfying. Admittedly this is not a genre I read a lot so I am less than a harsh critic

Entertaining, but didn't invoke any real investment. Narrator did a good job.

My head hurts.

Reckoners is over and I'm left in a daze. One question consumes my being. What now?

We all know Sanderson. We all know that all-consuming magic he weaves with his simplistic words. Complex magical systems that baffle and awe you since the days of Elantris. That famous Fantasy author has managed to write a best selling YA trilogy.

Assuming you've read the first two books, the reader waits anxiously for three things in this sequel.
1. What now?
2. The face off against the Jonathan Phadreus and ultimately, Calamity!
3. Does David get better with his metaphors?

Boom. Everything you've waited for all these months. It ends here. There is a sense of loss. A withdrawal syndrome once you're done with this book. Oh, this one was amazing. The fight with Jonathan was a class apart. And then Calamity. Prepare to be surprised though. This is no war against the Final Empire. Do not expect armies of Reckoners facing off against the Epics. What you get is minimalistic and yet, with a sense of closure.

Again, there will be heartbreaks and deaths. Some minor folks, some very very important ones. Megan shines throughout this book. And yes, David is still bad at metaphors.

The worst thing about this book is that it ends. The best thing about this book ending is that Sanderson can finally focus on Stormlight 3. I believe he is 45% done with the first draft according to his update. December could come a little sooner.

Not a typical mind blowing ending of Sanderson, and almost all of the revelations kind of predictable, but overall still a superb series with extraordinary world building, charming characters, engaging writing, super fun and action packed plot.

Good book

Mix of science fiction, dystopia, fantasy, action. You should read this book. But start at the beginning of the series, definitely.

Oi ? Como assim já acabou ? Cadê um epílogo do meu trio ? *cry*

Calamity is the first time that I have found a Sanderson book lacking. The pieces were there, as shown in Steelheart and Firefight . The world had so much potential, and this book was going to be the end-all showdown between the heroes and the ultimate big bad. The issue with the story was that there were two antagonists that were pushed throughout the book. The known one, whom we knew the Reckoners would be fighting as a carry over from Firefight , and the mysterious force that created all the evil in this universe. Where this book struggled, I think, is from having too much potential story and not enough space. The first villain took 95% of the book to complete, leading to a short, unfulfilling resolution at the end. Plus, in an attempt to fit that resolution in a the end, the heroes acted really against their characters.
Though this book was not the stunning resolution that Sanderson normally delivers, the first two books, and the intrigue of this world, more than makeup for its shortcomings. Read the first two, and use this book to complete the trilogy, but don't expect to be blown away by it.
