This installment of the Inheritance Games was a bit overly angsty for my tastes (serious high drama, even for ya)- but that doesn’t mean I didn’t read it in one sitting and that I’m not obsessed. The new characters kept things from being too insular (I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of an elderly woman in the games) and leave a lot of doors open for new spinoffs and storylines.
I did have some questions about Avery’s motives for making the games. As she’s pictured being such a practical person, I find it a bit odd that she’s employing the same types of puzzles and games as Tobias, combined with massive financial rewards, that seem to bring out the worst in people. Side note- there are also a remarkable number of criminals in their orbit!
Thrilled that a male lead is getting a fresh start at something new, while even more family secrets are exposed.
The fact that the whole book takes place over the course of about a day and we still don’t know who won the games is diabolical-I'm not even close on the sequel’s library hold! Boohiss

I’m sorry but Lyra and Grayson did it better than Avery and Grayson or even Avery and Jameson. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but that’s just how I feel they doubt I love them so much and if Jennifer Lynn Barnes take them away from me I’m gonna have a fist fight with her.

I was excited to read this but did not find it to be the fast past and intriguing story I was looking for. I did not find the characters enjoyable or even likable. It was just okay. While there were some interesting puzzles in the story it wasn’t enough to compel me to continue the series. I heard such wonderful things about the Inheritance Games and perhaps I should have started there.
