This book started really good and then became slightly underwhelming as the format changed.
C- 7
A- 7.5
At the beginning, the story is told through floorplans and conversations about the details in them. I found this to be a really interesting way to tell the story. However, the resolution of the story was told through a letter, which felt a bit info dumpy and rushed. It almost felt like the author got bored of the format he created and decided to get to the end as quickly as possible.
W- 8
P- 7
The plot is kind of hard to believe. It's men giving their wild conspiracy theories on some weird house and then are somehow completely right. It's enjoyable to read but also quite frustrating. There's no twists really, only explanations for weird stuff we already knew. Expectations aren't really subverted, rather built upon.
I- 8
L- 6
Somehow, the plot of this book is "look at this weird house" followed by "what if it was used for murder in this super specific way?" and then they're completely right straight away. If you suspend your disbelief, the atmosphere can distract you from this, but once the atmosphere falls away this is much harder.
E- 8
The format and the concept managed to carry my enjoyment, even though I didn't enjoy the ending so much.
