2.5 stars rounded up because I finished it

I’m disappointed because instead of being into how immediately devoted the H and h were, I was confused and put off by the quick rate everything was happening at. The H is a mafia boss and the h is a new receptionist at his office being tormented by his stepbrother. There’s some darkness (major trigger warnings for
Spoiler attempted rape, violence, and death of a parent
), a “mine” H, h who’s special to the H in unique ways (like being the only person he wants to touch/have touch him), and supportive side characters. The book starts out slow but has quite a bit of action and danger once it gets going and same with the steam with a slower burn before multiple spicy scenes.

The writing in this one also felt more stilted to me. Sadly not a winner but this book clearly works for a lot of other readers. The extended epilogue was cute and always a plus. No ow drama, om drama from the H’s brother being abusive and obsessive over the h, neither were virgins, bc discussed.

I had to DNF this is was too much honestly. Like I can handle assault being talking about, but this was to much. Like I got where the author was trying to go but I’ve read other books that handle the same or similar topics with more class and doesn’t bombard me with pages and pages of SA. And I love a good dark romance but this was much for me.

This was an ok read. Nothing spectacular.

When I think about what to write in this review I want to include the comparison of the quality of this story- to a five star B movie. I really think that summarizes it well. It was like a really good Hallmark movie with dark lowlights that weren’t as brutal as they could’ve been. And I enjoyed it so much! It started with a slow burn that progressed to a insta love relationship. I feel like it didn’t follow a typical romance novel, things tied up a little too neatly at the end. But the author hit all the important parts for me: dominant, possessive, rich hero that demands his heroine spend all his money while he worships the ground she walks on because she’s the only person he can stand to love! Perfection!

And Liam, Liam was swoon worthy! Such a powerful man, regularly commits murder, but loves his Mafia family, has morals and a heart *chefs kiss* Kiara was easy to like. I loved that she wasn’t a stupid heroine, or one that found it necessary to fight Liam at every turn. Kiara adjusted so well to the mafia world, and she made loving her easy. I enjoy those heroines too.

I asked, in a Facebook group, to recommend a damsel in distress story. I wish I could hug whoever recommended this one. Kiara is definitely in distress, Finn was sick af. This scratched the itch I had.

Liam, I dreamed of a man like you. Ugh.
I wanted romance and I wanted the man to fall hard, I got that. I wanted to watch the man fall I got that. Michelle, you did that, this had to be an amazing book to write because it was a great read. I wanted the love you gave Liam and Kiara to stand strong, I’m so glad no one had to fall in order to find each other! I just want to spoil the book for everyone lol. Now I want all the head of mafia to fall to their knees, and I’m so glad I’m watching (reading) that happen right now. Thank you for forever blessing me to read your books.
