"Eh. Holmes is condescending and Watson is complacently tautological. Maybe if this had been written as a serial I'd be more forgiving of the redundancies, but reading about the same insipid clues in a cliffhanger-ish tone four times in an hour killed the story for me. What about the rumors of the hound on the moor? And what about the mysterious bearded stranger? And what were the Barrymores hiding? And who is L.L.? And when will this story ever end?"

Not necessarily my favourite Holmes story despite being a bit longer and more in-depth than most, but still overall an interesting mystery.

So I have been buddy reading this with my older sibling and we are MOSTLY reading in publication order (we did read the 1st short story after this before this to finish that story line, if you know you know). But yeah, it was Fun. I really love seeing how the longer stories developed over his writing career. A study in scarlet was clunky (although still enjoyable), and this was very smooth.

I dunno I am really enjoying everything so far!
