This book hit me in the heartstrings the way it talks about seeing one's worth in academia or productivity and struggling with mental health. It is simultaneously light and romantic in the main character's story with her partner she chaotically finds but also really heavy and emotional in her navigating her own sense of self worth. I would've given it a higher rating but I think the writing was a little simplistic for me, personally! There were times I wish a little more depth was given to characters rather than repeating descriptions that we've heard before, but as a debut novel it was really fantastic! Love the queer representation.

This was lovely! Part self growth, part mental health journey, part queer romance. I loved all of the complicated, imperfect characters trying to figure things out. While there were some over the top or unbelievable elements to the story it was all grounded in real life issues, racism, misogynoir, homophobia, living up to our parents and our own expectations, struggling to understand our mental health and get help, struggling to be vulnerable and open with those we love and care for. Just a really lovely book, I listened to the audiobook which was great, but I'd love to get a physical copy for a re-read.

For college students of color struggling with racism and college burnout, this is the book for you or maybe not depending on how close you are to dropping out. I need to emphasize that if you are looking for a romance, this not the book for you because while the romance does take up a lot of the book, the book is definitely way more focused on Morgan's struggle with burnout and systemic racism in academia.

I adored Morgan so much as a primary protagonist and I wanted to watch her get the help she needed so desperately. While I didn't always like her choices, I always understood why she made those decisions. I loved her interactions with her friends and family and loved the way the book discussed how those relationships can be both provide support and pressure when moving through academia.

The emotional journey of this book is just phenomenal, I love how the romance supports it, and I cannot recommend this book enough.
