The Afterlife of the Party is a funny and fresh read for teens and adults alike who look for female characters with smart mouths and even smarter schemes. I listened to the audiobook and LOVED it.

3.5 stars!

This one was quick, engaging, corny, cliché, and funny at times! I was instantly pulled into the story and although the middle dragged on and was a pain to muddle through, the ending was back to being fast paced and entertaining enough it kept it at 3 stars for me!

I got hooked quick at the beginning and I felt the book was very promising. But as I read more and more, I noticed the story became very choppy, and there was a lot of jumping around. I had to go back a few times and see if I somehow missed something, because it’s from one scene to something completely different and I’d be like wait what?? And though I liked Tansy fine in the beginning, but the more the story went on the more she annoyed me. I expected her to be a badass but she was always being a baby and damsel in distress like to Vaughn. It started off well but ended in a mess and I had to force myself to see it through.

In The Afterlife of the Party, we meet Tansy who is reluctantly on her way to a party with her two best friends, Skyler and Vaughn. But, when Skyler starts to act super weird at this party and is totally consumed by Travis, the lead singer of the band The Drainers, Tansy is on high alert. This guy is sleazy and when Skyer is completely submissive to him when she would normally be turned off by his attitude, Tansy knows this is time to leave. But Travis and his bandmates are vampires and not only has Travis bit Skyler and turned her, but he also tries to bite Tansy too, luckily just grazing her skin.

This book is all about Tansy and Vaughn, the guy she is secretly crushing on so hard, doing whatever they can to find their friend and attempt to get her away from Travis’s evil clutches. They must go undercover and infiltrate the band, all while Tansy is trying to maneuver her new life of the undead. You guessed it… that little nip was enough to transform her into something, just not an actual vampire. Paired with her already magical abilities as a Mariotti witch, she becomes something else, entirely.

Tansy learns a lot about her lineage and her past while she is fighting tooth and nail to get her bff back. Luckily, she has Vaughn. The fact that they two have to pretend to be boyfriend and girlfriend is a major plus, not to mention the fact that it makes the two analyze how they really do feel about one another.

This was a fun read. The pacing is totally entertaining and something new is always happening to make sure your attention is kept. This isn’t the same old stale tale where vampires are beautiful and alluring. If you can see past their glamour, they are truly evil and murderous, stinking of death and blood and graveyard dirt. I really enjoyed reading this and the progression of the story left me in major anticipation of the sequel.

Vampires are officially back in The Afterlife of the Party. This book brought back so many memories of devouring vampire books almost exclusively in high school. I had so much fun reading it! It’s full of drama, action, and a lot of fun humor. It was really fast-paced and I could have read it in just one sitting if I had set aside enough time when I first started it. I definitely plan to continue the series, and I can’t wait to continue Tansy’s story.

Thank you so much to Entangled Teen for sending me a copy of The Afterlife of the Party to read and review.

It's 3.75 stars for me. The story was very cute and fairly quick paced. You do have to take into account that it reads like YA. The characters are in highschool. While the Vampire details were for the most part generic, I did chuckle with the weakness the author came up for them. If you are looking for witches and vampires I would recommend. Especially if you are looking for vampire/Witch hybrid.
