Wasn't as good as I thought. It wasn't really about teaching as much as it was about Megan finding herself.
This one deserve more than 3.49, seriously. I mean, okay I'm into chik-lits and YAs but this.. is different.
ANYWAY. I liked it. I mean really really really liked it. Somehow, I can relate to Meg. Being the shadow of someone really great and almost perfect can ruin your life. It's hard to live your life with others comparing you to someone you know you can't be, even with a whole lot of effort to make yourself better. And you can't hate them, too. Because they are fucking nice perfect girls and they just make you hate yourself for hating such perfect and nice girls.
It's kind of interesting too how the bitches (sorry, the term is kind of funny and it fit the girls, right? at least on a good way) changed from being bad dirty bitches who loves sex and shopping into Duke-university-student bitches who loves sex and shopping and making their life worthy of their money.
It was amazing. I was crying (I cried a lot.. seriously) and screaming to myself "Bitch this was a chick-lit! Not a fucking inspirational book!" But oh well. Gravity won, and a hell lot of times, I tell you. A LOT.
The book was okay. I mean, it was good.. OKAY! IT WAS GREAT. I mean FUCKING GREAT.

Yale Grad Meagan Smith loses her first job post-college at a sleazy tabloid, Scoop, leaving her penniless and still $75,000 in debt. She's offered a job tutoring the filthy rich and just as spoiled Baker Twins of Palm Beach. Ah, but here's the rub: the Twins get into Duke and their grandmother pays off her debt.
Meagan is pushed to her limits and finds that there are more things than even she ever imagined she'd ever do to get what she wants. Along the way she disovers that filthy rich girls have hearts, too.

I really enjoyed this book. Although these girls were snarky and rude and straight up selfish, I found that I read this book in less then a day.
Years ago they actually tried to make a TV show out of this book, but as we can all see that never lasted long.
It was great for a change in genre and one day I will probably re-read it :)

Is it predictable? Yes. Does it have one of those sappy sweet endings? You betcha. Is it believable? Not so much. Not to mention I could see every plot twist (or rather, plot point) coming from the first sentence of foreshadowing.
Here's the thing though. I could say the same thing for most of the chick lit I read. What made this enjoyable (bearable?) was the author's voice - it was fresh, a little snarky, and real - even if the story itself wasn't. I totally believed that the twins were 'mean girls' (you'd be surprised how many books portray 'bitches' with too much sympathy).
All in all, a nice light read. You're not going to be inspired to write a Pulitzer after this one, but if you're looking for an easy escape, you found it.

I haven’t read a chick lit type book in a very long time, and it really is just junk food candy for the brain. A 23 year old recent Yale grad is barely making her way in NYC. She is a writer, but doesn’t get the job she wants, and when she is fired from her tabloid magazine job (which actually sounded pretty cool to me!), and has no place to live and even no clothes, all due to a fire, she ends up in Florida trying to tutor 17 year old heiresses. I don’t like Megan. She is always blaming other people for being better than her, like her sister, or the rich people, or her boyfriend for his job, etc. I was horrified when she decided to write an expose of the very people who were befriending her. I won’t tell you the ending but I can say it’s very predictable. This whole story would never have happened nowadays, even though it’s not too far in the past. The twins “do a google search” on Megan and think she’s someone else, when nowadays they could see her photo or just look at her facebook, Instagram, etc., which would have caused half the things in the book to not even happen. At one point someone fed exes an article, and I thought, why not just scan it over? It’s always so intriguing how technology and time can be so important, even in a fluff piece like this. While I did not like Megan, and the characters were all cliché, I did like the twins, and it was a fun and fast read.
I love this show but the book is way better! Loved it!
