This book seemed so promising!!! I wanted to love it so badly but I couldn’t :((( The setup of the bakery and bookstore duo seem so cute and amazing but the author seriously messed up with the random conflicts the characters had. The conflicts the characters had made no sense?!?!?! They could literally be solved with a regular conversation if they didn’t storm out on each other every 5 mins. Maybe it’s because I find myself strongly disliking the miscommunication trope but I kept rolling my eyes at the conflicts. The only one that made sense was when they were arguing if he should go see his alcoholic mom or not and I was like finally a conflict that makes sense to the plot and characters I’m only giving two stars for the smut. Read this only if you want a cliche story with some decent smut but don’t read for the plot lol.
The premise is cute and the characters are fun but her writing is too juvenile for me in the adult category

this was a waste of my time. it’s like 2.5 for me because their chemistry was way more physical than anything. joelle sounds like has a saving complex and max is an asshole with no character development whatsoever and when he did it felt rushed like nothing changed. also the things they said to eachother…miscommunication is not even the definition for it

i liked this book it was cute and i wasn't expecting it to have spice but i enjoyed it
I’m going to start with the positives. I loved Joelle’s family dynamics and the background from which you see her determination and fight to succeed in life. I empathise with her having to find a different and more difficult way to live her dream. But the family support and sacrifice was heartwarming. I also appreciated the really light hearted fun scenes in this book between Max and Joelle including the concept. I liked Joelle’s ability to stand up for herself in curtain circumstances that called for it, she wasn’t a damsel in features which I admired
However, this book overall, though written about two mid 30s characters was sophomoric. I don’t care how you spin it, or how attractive the author tells us he is, Max at the beginning of the book is this sweet, flirty, nice guy. As the story unfolds however he because moody, snappy, petulant, overactive, rude and to be blunt a complete dick. The story alludes to him having some serious issues going on in his life and even though we get his POV it didn’t help justify his really turbulent behaviour and reactions to things that just weren’t that big of a deal. A trope that I cannot stand had this story in its strong hold and that my friend is the miscommunication trope. When the whole friction between two characters relies on their inability to communicate like normal adults. And it was frustrating like you wouldn’t believe. I listened to this on audio book and was frequently yelling at it. What had me so angry was that the miscommunication played a large role in Joelle doubting herself. On a side note I also didn’t like the description of Joelle thinking that she was not good enough for a guy like Max, especially since his character didn’t serve justice to his looks. Overall I had too many angry moments in what should have been a light hearted read.

It got spicy real fast and it super didn't fit the tone of the book, my expectations, or my likes so I out it down.
