I picked this up because it was sitting on the shelf at the library and I figured I could get some background on Spiderman 2099 ahead of the new Spiderverse movie. This didn't really help. There was nothing interesting in here.

This is the low point of the series so far (and I hope an actual low point altogether, since it's been a great run so far and I'd hate to see it go even more downhill). While it did start decent with some beautiful art by Patrick Gleason, the artist changes midway through the story and the overall quality dips quite low.

Mediocre art, convoluted storytelling, melodrama, no character development...probably a 2.5 star but I'll round up because the characters are so good.
I expect more - disappointed.

Man, I’ve really been enjoying this run until now. This was entirely, unapologetically nothing but a cash grab with no plan. There was no reason for this to be called “2099” or for it to have 9 tie-ins.
As it’s own story it was fine, but feeling both lied to about the inclusion of one of the coolest characters out that hasn’t had a title in years, to the little inclusion of them feeling crammed in and like a slap in the face makes it not worth reading.

Poorly drawn, tying into some yawn-inducing event... yay, it's that trademark Marvel 'important arc'.
