"My Fair Lord" by Julie Beard was marked as very good when I read it in August of 2002. This author has consistently proven to be a "very good" writer.

This was such a silly book and that's exactly what I was expecting. I really had to suspend my disbelief, which was okay with me because I was in the perfect mood for this kind of story. My Fair Lord is kind of a gothic parody and the supernatural elements were a lot of fun to read. Do not read this book if you are looking for a meaty story with rounded characters. But...if you're in the mood for a silly ghost story, then this might be the book for you.

The first half of the book was okay. I started getting bored a little before the halfway point. Things only started picking up after Lucas was hit on the head. It was a lot of fun trying to figure out exactly where the author was going with the story. There were sooo many hints so it was really easy to figure out the mysteries, but that did not dampen my enjoyment.

The characters were not memorable though to be honest. They felt like cardboard cut-out characters for the most part. Their motivation was often muddled and hard to understand. I also skimmed quite a few useless chapters. Regardless, the silly ghost story was fun and it's the only appeal of the book for me.
