the canterville ghost is perfect to me actually........ what a guy!!!!! love the part where he cries :-)
For a moment the Canterville ghost stood quite motionless in natural indignation; then, dashing the bottle violently upon the polished floor, he fled down the corridor, uttering hollow groans, and emitting a ghastly green light. Just, however, as he reached the top of the great oak staircase, a door was flung open, two little white-robed figures appeared, and a large pillow whizzed past his head! There was evidently no time to be lost, so, hastily adopting the Fourth dimension of Space as a means of escape, he vanished through the wainscoting, and the house became quite quiet.

La primera vez que leí a Oscar Wilde fue con “El retrato de Dorian Gray”, quedé tan sumamente impresionada con la obra maestra ante la que me encontraba que tenía miedo de volver a enfrentarme a otro título suyo y que no estuviera a la altura. Este pasado Halloween tuve una corazonada y supe que era el momento perfecto para leer “El fantasma de Canterville y otros cuentos” del autor.
Publicada por primera vez en 1891, la obra incluye cuatro relatos, el primero de ellos y más largo es el que da título al libro y luego hallamos otras historias merecedoras de una digna mención pues todas me han gustado. Entre sus páginas nos encontraremos con historias de fantasmas, crímenes y ajetreos tenebrosos varios que deleitarán a los lectores que busquen algo oscuro para leer en esa época.
Bien es sabido que Wilde era un maestro de la narración y en estos cuentos, lo demostró una vez más. No solo brindándonos un estilo narrativo bello y pulcro, sino también por la singular y fascinante manera de ofrecernos un texto plagado de críticas camufladas en una historia aparentemente infantil de fantasmas. Su grandilocuencia deslumbra tras la mordacidad y la visión de las clases burguesas inglesas que nos ofrece.
Para finalizar, solo me queda hacer hincapié en lo especial que es este escritor para mí y lo que siento haber tardado tanto en volver a leerlo. Uno de mis victorianos favoritos que siempre gozará de un ingenio y una personalidad que se ve reflejada en todos sus textos. Obviamente pronto seguiré leyendo otros de sus cuentos y obras de teatro que sé que disfrutaré.

I knew the The Canterville ghost plot cause I read it years ago, and rereading it with a deepest knowledge of the author and of the story itself made me appreciate it even more

"'Death must be so beautiful. To lie in the soft brown earth, with the grasses waving above one's head, and listen to silence. To have no yesterday, and no to-morrow. To forget time, to forget life, to be at peace.'" This is classical english story about non-scary ghost. I love the movie so it was really nice to read the book, but I didn't enjoyed it, too slow not really anything happening there.
