John Green still breaks my heart in the best ways, the author who made me want to defend YALit in a master's thesis. This book is a beautiful conclusion to his YA era. I had put off reading it for too long but the release of a film adaptation finally motivated me. I do not have OCD, but it has overlap with anxiety and this is such a devastatingly accurate depiction of spiraling, paralyzing episodes. Read with care.

It made me want to read a blog an old friend wrote in high school. I swear it sounded just like Davis's.

I read this book when it first came out in 2017 and again in Apr 2024 in anticipation of the new HBO release. When it first came out I was living alone for the first time, a freshman in college, had just broken up with my first love- I had a completely different lens. This most recent read, I think I finally *got* it. A lot of this book is really heavy, but it’s realistic. The ending is
mildly hopeful, but again, so relatable as someone who has lived just enough life to know that it does get better.
