Re-read this 3 years later. I'd like to bump up my rating. I think it's a very introspective type of book and perhaps something I wasn't quite used to last time. It does a great job of putting us in Aza's shoes. I appreciate it for that aspect, but I think it's just a personal preference that I feel mostly neutral about this type of philosophical or introspective story.

Read this on a whim. I didn’t dislike this book, but it wasn’t my favorite either. I thought it was a really helpful in its discussion and descriptions of mental illness (specifically OCD, which the author himself struggles with). The plot was OK, not great, and if it would’ve been much longer of a book I might not have finished it. My personal preference would have been more of a focus  on the mystery of the story vs. the philosophical ponderings and friendship development. To be fair though, I tend to dislike books and movies that are set during high school. I am still glad to have read it before I watch the movie though!

A tough but realistic look at mental health, with very relatable descriptions of anxiety etc spirals.
