This is such a fun book! Elliot is a proper young man who takes a penguin from the aquarium--silliness ensues. There's a lot of humor in this, especially in how his father behaves during the whole book. It's a lovely book for anyone who ever wanted to take a penguin from the zoo (like me).
For: lovers of penguins.
Possible red flags: some readers may worry about what kind of behavior this encourages; thievery.

Adorable. My favorite thing is that librarian has pink hair and hipster glasses.

Elliot steals a very unlikely pet, a small penguin. He tries to do all sorts of things to help his new pet. This was an adorable imaginative picture book with fun illustrations.

Red clover nominee...I love it when illustrators but small details in their pictures that create a small picture of the big picture!

A silly book of mischief achieved when a child’s request and a parent’s response don’t quite line up to the expected result.

A funny story to read one-on-one with an older preschooler or younger elementary student. Small misunderstandings lead up to a funny ending.

Professionally I have enjoyed Toni Buzzeo's "teaching" books. As a picture book lover, I adored this story of a boy who literally takes a penguin from the aquarium home. Cute ending! And one of my favorite illustrators to boot, David Small of The Gardener.

One of the best endings I've ever seen. I literally chuckles aloud on this one several times. His father is studying turtles whilst eating chocolate turtles, and his pajamas are turtles. Ah, let's just say, without giving anything away, like father like son on this book!! Haha! So good!
