This is a case of the cover made me do it!

This was the story of Tiwanda, who had a lot going on in this book. She was dealing with the grief of her mother, and then her father 5 years later when she was a teenage. Having her grandmother take custody of her caused a rift in the family.

She is also trying to open her own business after quitting her job. Through a grant program she gets assigned a mentor who she is very dismissive of, until he pushes her to see how he can help her and wants her to succeed.

There is also a dating app, called Met, that her friend shared with her that supposedly has a mystical connection to her mothers spirit. A little weird but also endearing.

Through the course of the story she gets matched with 4 different people both male and female since she is bisexual and she has to weed out her perfect match.

I think this book was a case of too much going on and not enough focus. While there is a romance element it doesn’t really come across as a romance as most of the matches she doesn’t even go out with and the end decision comes at the very last few pages and even then it isn’t explored all that much. So would consider it more of a finding oneself sort of book.

I didn’t read the first book, and I would highly suggest it if you plan to read this one as there were a lot of characters and history introduced that I was lost about while reading.

It was a very diverse cast and I did enjoy that aspect of the book.

I received an arc for review. All opinions are my own and given freely.

Work-a-holic main character who doesn't have time for love, but when the almost magical dating app "MET" appears on her phone from a friends recommendation she finds herself making time to date the four people the app suggests just incase.

The idea of the app is that when you meet someone in person who has qualities that the app thinks fits with yours you both get a notification of a potential match. The app has a limit of four chances (I think) with the idea that one of them will be 'the one' it also has a AI question feature and will disappear after your time is up or whatever. It was a cool idea but feels very "magical" and not realistic. Which honestly I didn't mind.

I liked the main character and could relate and I thought the story was fun and interesting and did like the love interests although having a couple months pass between me reading it I will say the love interests were not very memorable. So even though I enjoyed the book for what it was, its not a favorite for me.

I really liked Have We Met and decided to read The Moment We Met right after while the characters were all still fresh in my mind.

Although the story was fine, I do think it lacked the friend group dynamics that made Have We Met so charming and compelling. I likened the first book to being at brunch with your best friends, and this book didn’t quite feel that way.

This was a free read and listen on Kindle Unlimited and I loved this novel. It was heartwarming and a great balance on loving yourself, following your dreams and loving others.

Camille Baker managed to squeeze such a wonderful and complete story into such a quick read. I thought  Baker was going to leave me on a cliff hanger for a second, but she wrapped up this book perfectly. I usually would have felt as if a romance book without dual pov was incomplete but this was not the case. I really like how Tiwanda was at the center of the story and dual pov would have taken away from that. This book covered so many heavy topics in such a light and fun way. I loved it.

This is a story about Tiwanda, a woman who just turned thirty and like many that age is at a crossroads. Met, the dating app that mysteriously appeared on her cousin’s phone in the first book, makes an appearance on Tiwanda’s phone as well. And she is left to decide: will she follow the app’s suggestions? Or will she continue to believe that she is not meant for a relationship?

Now, the good stuff.

I love this style of writing of this author. There is a cool, calm vibe that is brought to the page in her debut novel, Have We Met? This was no different. Keeping with the same vibe, Tiwanda has it all together…until she doesn’t. With the milestone birthday and other life changes, Tiwanda is forced to change and change again, and it throws her off balance. This book is just as heartwarming as it is hilarious.

The author has you rooting for one person on one page, and then wholeheartedly rooting for a different person on the next page. The person she ends up with, though is the best.

Thank you to NetGalley & Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
