World's okayest gothic horror. The illustrations were cool but it's just a slightly expanded version of Jacobs's The Monkey's Paw.
A tale of the supernatural lightly based on on the Egyptian myth of Osiris and Isis. It was a fast read, succinctly written, though not as spell binding as I thought it might be. A noble intent.

I feel like if you wanted to introduce kids to death most of this would be good to read to them. And it's super short
This was so short, I literally read it during my lunch hour and had 15 minutes to spare. (What can I say, I'm a fast reader.)
Iris loves her brother so much that she cannot handle his death at such a tragically young age. Having once enveloped herself in the story of Isis and Osiris, she brings her own beloved brother back, with disastrous results.
A grim and gruesome tale for the week of Halloween.

I wasn't sure what to expect picking this tiny little thing up. I know it wasn't a look at love, death and the afterlife, but that is what I got. Clegg brought this small world to light with his beautiful words and I was so sad to see it end even though I didn't feel that it was too short. It was just about perfection.
Gothic horror set in late Victorian period. (Note: this is a short story or novela, not a full length novel.) Story is classic horror set in an ancient manor house and old legends about bringing the dead back to life. Not really scary but atmospheric, like the old Hammer films. The book comes with charming Victorian style illustrations which raised the book from a three to four stars for me.
A very short & interesting read! A brother and sister compare themselves to Isis & Osiris.
A nicely done little book. The drawings really help set the creepy tone, and the ending was actually a bit of a surprise to me, which is rare in horror fiction. A twist, and then another. And in the middle, a thought-provoking discourse on the dead. I almost wish it was longer, so I could have wallowed in the superbly wrought atmosphere a little more, but it was actually just the perfect length--it said what it needed and left me wanting more.
Fantastically spine-tingling. You don't want to look over your shoulder while you read it.
