Over-the-top and a little ridiculous at times also the neurodivergence portrayed is on shaky ground but I find these audiobooks addictive. Lauren Ambrose is a great narrator.
This story was very smooth with how it switched between timelines and how everything tied back to her & her grandma’s past.
What I loved about the first book was Molly’s ignorance and how she unknowingly kept putting herself in dangerous situations, but in this book she was much more socially aware. I was happy for her own character growth… but it didn’t connect with me as much.
Still planning on continuing the series though!

This book was good, but definitely not as enjoyable as the first book. The first 75% of the book was okay, but I felt like there was a lot of information about Molly’s connection with the victim that wasn’t necessarily needed. It’s possible the excess information about Molly’s past was a way to distract the reader from figuring out who committed the murder too early, but it just felt pretty fluffy with little bits of helpful information. Despite this, I definitely didn’t see it coming when the murderer was exposed.

I loved The Maid, and I was nervous this book would not be as great as the first. However, when I started reading with Molly’s narration again, it felt like putting on a comfy tee shirt. This book brings Molly and her Gran to life in a new way, and I loved learning more about their lives as Molly grew up. The mystery was fun and had some interesting twists. One thing I was confused about was why Grimthorpe’s ghostwriter didn’t quit. I understand she was afraid to leave and didn’t want to risk financial struggle, but that was an interesting choice. A great read! I can’t wait to pick up the next book!

This one is a loser. First, as I've regularly pointed out, this much flashback is a lazy crutch. Second, in the real world, Cheryl would have been fired after the first story and definitely after this one. Third, it's just a bit too soap opera for me.
