Alone on a wide, wide sea is a fabulous book. The first half is told from Arthur Hobhouse's perspective, as he tells readers of his childhood, growing up on Cooper's Station, working the fishing industry and then working in the Navy, during the Vietnam War.
The second half of the book is told from his daughter Allie's perspective, as she travels from Sydney to London, by boat to try to find Arthur's long-lost sister, Kitty. This part of the book is a mix of Allie's emails to her mum and grandad and diary-type entries.

This book is really good if you are a fan of diary-type books, sailing or life stories.
