This is possibly my favorite book... or at least my favorite kids' book. It's about a girl who is half human and half fairy, so she's rejected from both groups of people. I love fairies, and this one isn't just a "puny little hopeless fairy becomes THE CHOSEN ONE and saves the world from almost imminent doom" fluffy sort of story. It's a little sad, but very sweet. Phoebe, I think you'd like this one a lot.
I liked it, but not a lot.
The story was engaging, and I really liked the subject, but the writing bored me.
I probably should have liked it more because of the fairies, Scotland, lack of romance, and just the wonderful bits of mythology, but at least it was a quick read and served as a good distraction while I'm sick.

I missed this one when I was a child - which is a shame, because I really enjoyed reading this story about a misfit cast out of a group of fairy folk for being half human, and forced to find her way with humans.
It was good, but not as good as I was expecting it to be. Still, I enjoyed it, though I don't think I'll read it again.
One thing I did like, was the way [a:Eloise Jarvis McGraw|30654|Eloise Jarvis McGraw|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-F-50x66.jpg] described the way a bagpipe sounds.
And, after reading this, I really don't like the traditional fairies/pixies/folk/elves of stories. They're not very nice...just air-headed creatures.

This book is so beautifully atmospheric in a really specific way that's hard to duplicate (or at least, I haven't found many).

I have to admit, I don't remember much about the plot of this book, as I read it as a child and I'm now in my twenties, but what I do remember is the overwhelming sense of comfort this book brought me. As someone who always felt different growing up, I loved this book. I read it multiple times in elementary school and it has a special place in my heart.
A sweet a fun book that I wish had been just a bit more attention-holding. Still, I would have loved it as a child had I known it existed, and I definitely recommend it!
A delightful story, and a great fit for children trying to adjust to new situations or early adolescence, with its sense of not quite fitting in, and being yourself.
