I reread this recently, and I have to say, it really holds up as a great X-Men story. The dialogue can be overly Whedon-esque at times, and certain parts are better than others (the Hellfire Club segment is kind of lame and has zero conclusion). But it really takes the concept of the school and the X-Men as superhero teachers to new heights.

I didn't think I could polish this whole thing off in three days, let alone one, but thus is the power of Whedon. I'm not as attached to the XMen overall, but I love me some Logan and Hank who both get to shine in these comics. And I now understand why people like Kitty Pryde.
Also, Peter Parker punches Doctor Strange, which is pretty hilarious.
I still don't like Emma Frost...

This was my first venture into the X-Men comics and it was a great introduction to the characters.

The story is interesting without being overly complicated and stands well on its own allowing you to get to know the characters. All of the characters were brilliant and well done. I found myself falling in love with characters who in the movies I didn't enjoy. They were fleshed out and all much more relatable. The smattering of other Marvel characters was well done and never felt like a fan boy just trying to right as many of his favorite superheroes into his story.

After reading this I'm very interested in reading more X-Men and exploring more Marvel comics.

I read a lot of X-Men in the late 80’s early 90’s, and loved it. Something about it really just clicked for me, and I found it highly compelling. Sometime in the mid-90’s, though, something changed. The plots became insanely baroque, and the characters less relatable. I lost interest.

This amazing collection completely captured that original magic that first drew me to the X-Men. Absolutely wonderful!
