It's pretty convoluted in a not fun way. I don't like MMC hitting anyone for no reason. Honestly, based on the blurb, I'm super let down and was hoping for more mythology and less... Whatever this was.

Sappy and saccharine for the last 1/4 of book. But I am a lusty old woman and really enjoyed the God of War’s smoldering handsome looks and protectiveness. Romance between feisty Lian and Zhangwei was well-done. The beginning part of the plot was so strong - conflict, mystery, angst. And then it began to wane in the story’s denouement … but I did like the lessons that Lian learned about in the Netherlands about who’s considered foe and friend and why that line is so thin. I also liked her ramblings about how there’s so much to learn from mortals and their YOLO MO bc they are at peace with dying. I do like the ending reflection that Lian can and is more than just one aspect of a person. That was nice… cheesy, too, but more so nice.
