Feminism at its finest. Had a couple good belly laughs in there, too.

Lindy West is the friend who manages to be everything at once: smart, funny, confident, and candid. But perhaps most importantly she is compassionate. She does not allow excuses for why comedians make rape jokes, or why fat people should be shamed. Instead she asks why can't we be kind and funny? Why can't we help people be healthy and happy without shaming their weight? Why can't airplanes have wider seats?
This book helped me understand arguments for trigger warnings and fat acceptance and not telling rape jokes. Lindy makes it seem obvious that these arguments can (and should) come from a place of compassion not a place of self-righteousness. And who can argue that the world needs less compassion?

I started this collection thinking this book is very 2016 and Lindy West is very millennial, but by the end I realized that I needed this book. Summer is aggressively here and while I am so glad to swim and get sun and explore, my lingering voice still yells at me that “I am too fat to wear this and enjoy myself”. Which is so dumb because who caresssss, anyway more fat writers should be able to write about being fat because god can it be so lonely.

Hysterical and poignant, just like I like! Lindy West talks candidly about her struggles with the public perception of her, both as a fat woman and feminist. Her footnotes made me laugh out loud and her prose was thought-provoking and honest.

This book was extremely cathartic. And very, very funny. Read if you dig feminism, positive body image, if you're interested in fat positivity, if you support destroying abortion stigma, and if you hate Internet trolls, have dealt with Internet trolls, and want to read a manifesto of destroying assholes.

I've always enjoyed West'd writing. It's been a while since I read any of her work and I forget how funny and poignant she is.
