I honestly wanna give it 2 stars, bc the plot was kinda dull, even though I wad interested in the story. But the last 180-150 have some interesting stuff, although very rushed and underdeveloped for me. The characters are okay with some shining moments (conversation Lilliac with her father? kinda banger ngl)
But I also recognize that I'm far from targeted audience and the book wasn't horrible and it distracted me, so solid 2.5-3 stars. I will give a go the rest of the trilogy, bc im interested in the world.

I was in the mood for a cliche YA and this definitely gave me all of the vibes for that. So yes, I did end up really enjoying it because it was exactly what I was in the mood for!
While I struggled with Lilac's character at a couple parts, I have huge respect for her character and the growth. I mean, girl hiked through the woods in stiletto heels after a space pod crash!? Damn. And I really liked Tarver and how their relationship developed.
It is basically all about their relationship but I didn't mind. There was enough of a back plot to keep you interested, but it is very character and relationship driven.
I'll probably read the other 2 at some point because I hear they explore more of those background pieces that I am very intrigued by!

With interview pages between each chapter, These Broken Stars is kind of a precursor to The Illuminae Files. A massive luxury ship crashes out of hyperspace onto a seemingly deserted planet with only two survivors—Tarver and Lilac. This two POV story was basically what I expected a YA sci-fi novel about two teens crash landing on a seemingly deserted planet to be like. I was really enjoying it until things got extremely romantically involved in the last bit. Tarver kept referring to Lilac as "his girl" and being very possessive of her and it put me off. I was initially going to rate it a 4, but that dropped it down half a star for me.
It's an enjoyable read, but nothing groundbreaking. Looking forward to book 2.
