I started reading The Hunger Games in the summer after watching the movie. A friend of mine who had read it recomended it to me. So when I starded reading, I was expecting something like the movie, but it was way better. It's a fantastic story about a girl who volunteers for her sister for The Hunger Games: a reality-show where they send a girl and a boy from the twelve districts to fight to the death. I related with Katniss since the very beginning because of her love for her little sister, Prim.
I love how the story is made, with Katniss our first-person narrator, because when I read it's like I'm Katniss and I'm in the Hunger Games and I'm thinking all those things and having those flashbacks.
The story is very thrilling and suspenseful and I couldn't stop reading (I read the book in two days...)

Re-read, 15 years after the first time.
I have minor issues because of the writing and some inconsistencies within the plot or certain details.
I'm surprised that I actually found Katniss more insufferable now. I just can't stand how she expresses compassion on different levels. To an extent, she shows more leniency toward the boy who killsRue than her mother or Peeta. That really doesn't sit right with me since it's rooted in the way she is written and it has absolutely nothing to do with her age or her (lack of) experience.
Also, I've seen some people saying that there was never any love triangle in this series. Um, there absolutely is. It is, at the very least, set up as such and it's really annoying but it was the thing at the time, I guess.
It truly bothered me at the very end, when Katnissis feeling helpless and lost, before reaching District 12: it gives the impression that all of the trauma and stakes at play are being used as tools to support this useless dilemma.
It remains a good, important story and I'm eager to re-read the rest of the trilogy (and finally dive into the prequels).
