Medium pace. Never a dull moment. You won't feel overwhelmed though. Good mix of emotions. Great character development. One of the most refreshing books I've read in a while.laurajeangrace's review against another edition

“Lore” Follows Melora (aka Lore) through the events of the Argon, a seven day trial every seven years where gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals. Hunters try and kill the Gods durring these seven days, because their immorality and powers are passed down to whoever wields the killing blade.
I think what brought this book down for me was the info dump at the beginning. Throughout the novel there were many plot points that left me confused, or plot holes which I felt needed more development. Stand alone fantasy novels can be difficult in that aspect, so I appreciated the fact that it was fast paced with lovable characters.
There is a great found family dynamic as well as romance (subplot) which contrasted well with some of the darker themes.
In case anyone is interested solely on the cover, Lore is NOT a Medusa retelling, but mentions her as well as other mythical women.

I loved the premises of the book but I unfortunately found myself not excited to continue reading or wanting to pick it up again (so much so that it's taken me a few months to finish).
I understand that Greek names can be confusing and back story is needed to have an understanding, but for me one of the downfalls in this novel with the numerous people mentioned. I also found it slightly pointless to mention houses that were extinct and no longer added to the plot other than to make the reader learn another house. So I do think that anyone that reads it will have to prepare themselves to use the diagrams at the front and he character info at the back to keep themselves right.
I did love the fact that Greek gods and mythology were brought into he modern age and it was interesting to read about how they were keeping up traditions or preparations for the Agon. However again I felt at times it was an imbalance were there was too much of a Greek dump or I felt some aspects just did not blend well.
For me it was an interesting take on two very different concepts, but unfortunately it was just a book that I could not get into and have it hold my interest.
