Overall Thoughts:
⁕ The schematics of the bloodlines, family relations, and transfer of powers was so convoluted to me for such a large portion of the book. The chart provided helped a little bit but not entirely.

⁕ The plot is quest-based and driven more by physical action than character emotion and development. Consequently, the main heroes fell flat.

⁕ My favorite scene involved one of the Gods talking about her experience as a women and one of the only remaining "old gods." It was a perspective that we don't usually get in modern day retellings of Greek mythology and one of the strongest moments of emotional vulnerability in the book.

⁕ Yes, there were some plot twists. No, I did not see them coming.

This story is essentially The Hunger Games meets Percy Jackson meets Scythe. It’s one of those books that you can’t put down, but once you finish it, you realize that it wasn’t that great. The suspense keeps you reading and helps you forget a lot of the inconsistencies, but after the (subpar) resolution, you’re left wondering why you were so enthralled.

I loved this book and I couldn’t stop reading. Though the start was a little slow but once it got going it didn’t stop. At first I didn’t think I would like Lore but as the book went on I fell in love with her. She wasn’t like the typical young adult heroine where they are all about them. She listened to her friends and didn’t really do that much stupid stuff. Though I do have to say Miles and Van were my two favorite characters. Alexandra Bracken wrote the perfect blend of the old Greek myth with a modern day setting. Her writing was easy to follow and get into. I will be recommending this to all my friends. Thank you Netgalley and Hyperion for letting read and review this book.
