I loved almost everything about this book. It was such an easy read and the adventure was only a week long. The pace was to my utmost taste as well. Some holes were answered just as quick as I question if there will ever be an answer for them, while some were not i.e., I still am quite unsure why and how the Agon really started for it feels like the book greatly lacked an explanation for it—I wanted to know more, I wanted a more in-depth knowledge about the root cause of the Agon, as well as information about the gods and goddesses present in the story.

There were so much opportunities to create a deeper world on each characters—particularly Castor. I loved him ever since I first met his character, therefore, my expectations were high on the explanation of how he became a
god when he was once a sick boy who's on the verge of dying and then all things happened, he suddenly became the false Apollo
. I waited for a long time to know the explanation behind what really happened, yet I was only given a fraction of what I had expected.

Nevertheless, I loved how diverse the characters were, especially having an LGBTQIA+ couple. I also had few gasps as I read the plot twist and  honestly, nothing could have made me ready from it.

Overall, it was good primarily because it's my cup of tea—gods and goddesses, female heroine, gays and all. I'm in for these tags haha.

“A feather fallen from a wing is not lost, but free.”

This story proves that we can’t trust man and people in power.

The story started off so good after 35%. Even tough it is a stand-alone I felt that it keeps getting dragged. One thing is that when it comes to Greek Mythology, I get confuse(that is a me problem, not the authors…) and since I was really interested in that topic, I had hoped we got more infos/fiction from the author.
But around 75%, the plot started to pick up. And there was one time, I audibly gasped because of several “unexpectedly expecting”plot twists.

I love the FL, she was shown as a strong lead with a dark past. We get to see how flawed she can be and how naive and vulnerable she becomes when she is betrayed and being forced to suppress herself…

You may deny the Fates, but they will not deny you. Fighting them will not save you from what is ahead. It will merely quicken the course of things."

TW: Murder; war; power hunger; men; grooming; suggestion of adult/minor marriage; death/massacre of family members

This book is mediocre, at best.
Would have DNF'd if it wasn't for my buddy read.

Okay so this book wasn't what I expected but I loved it. I know many people especially one's who love greek mythology did not enjoy this book. I am a big mythology fan myself but I didn't have an issue with the book. There were a few times where I thought the portrayal of the gods was a but strange but nothing big enough to influence my enjoyment of the story.

The writing style was great. This is the first book I've read by Alexandra Bracken and I definitely want to read more! The Darkest Minds has been on my tbr for a while so I'm excited to read that soon :)

The ending was quite abrupt and a bit under explained imo and that's part of the reason my I didn't give it 5 stars. I genuinely enjoyed it but it just wasn't five stars for me.

Edit: After sleeping on it I decided to give it 4 instead of 5.75. There were no real plot twists and everything that was explained I had already guessed before. The things I couldn't figure out on my own weren't explained in the end which left me confused.
