I really liked how it fit in with the original 1984 for most part, It really felt like you could discover the world through a different point of view. I liked Julias backstory and seeing a different version of how people navigate this dystopia.
I relly disliked the ending and that it took away a lot of hte ambiguity. I think the book would have been better if it ended a few chapters later.

I don't think I ever read Orwell's 1984. I got a bit bogged down with this, about halfway through, wondering what the point was. Julia is a well-written character that makes it work, but there's also so much nonsensical stuff that happens. Then there's her torture, which I could not read/had to skim. At this point I'm wondering if I chose a book I don't really want to read. Then it all turns out okay, making the basic point that those in power will always ask the people to behave badly and do evil things.

In a way it was more interesting than 1984, it answered a lot of questions that were left hanging in 1984 and gave more substance for the future. However, I do think it's kinda silly that Julia was behind almost everything that happened in 1984, I thought the ending was rather disappointing, and I do wish Julia was given more personality than just "she likes to fuck".
