At first I really wasn't sold on this retelling of 1984 because it felt at once too close to the original and like the source material was being altered too much, but I started to feel like the strength of this novel is in how it gets you to question the unreliability of the original's perspective. I was concerned that the story had started to lose its way in the final 100 pages but I was firmly put in my place by the very ending. Definitely recommend re-reading 1984 right before reading this for maximum impact.
