The writing is so good. Emily Tesh does human minds and emotions and relationships so brilliantly. And the atmosphere and magic system and the sly digs at HP were delightful.  But the story was lacking for me. Where Some Desperate Glory had me gripped, this narrative seemed unfocused and a little roughly shaped.

Literally WHAT is the plot?!? Pacing was super off, and while I really enjoyed certain aspects to the writing, I was just bored and found myself not even wanting to pick it up. I feel like the premise is super interesting, and it could have gone a lot of cool ways, but just.. didn’t.
