Dark Gold by Christine Feehan was another entry in the Dark Series. So the "arrogant" part continues but I think in this book she ends up giving a better explanation of why. I really liked Aiden/Alex arc--it showed growth on both of their parts and showed that they were willing to work on it. I loved Aiden's human family and that they were an important part of the story! All in all it was a fun escapist read :)

Again I liked it but I didn't love the book. But I love the world it is all based in. I have read a couple reviews for books later on and a lot of complaints I see are that it's the same story over and over again and I can defiantly see that happening. This is only the 3rd book and I can already see it but I still want more.. So that says something there I think.

I could not stand Alex.. I thought she was kind of whiney and for someone who only wanted to take care of her brother she really didn't do a great job.. Please explain why you would leave your brother with a homeless man? How in the hell did that happen.. Okay so you have talked to him a few times, and I guess you are kind of his friend but I mean really?.. I don't know I had issues with that right away. And then later on she was so dead set on proving Aiden wrong that she tried to walk into the sun? Yeah and leave Josh to complete strangers. Yeah, No. Some crappy things happened to her. I get that and no one can know wha they would do unless they were in that situation but I just feel like running into to the sun to prove that it won't kill you when you can feel it burning you.. ugh. Stupid.

Aiden I liked. He was much better than Jacques. Thats for sure. I have come to realize that all the men in this series are going to be overbearing cavemen. Which I can deal with as long as nothing is actually forced and I don't think Aiden forced Alex to really do anything the way Jac did. He was terrible.

anyways I am very excited for the next book because yay Gregori! Although after the little bit of info you learn about him and his life mate in this book I have a feeling I may not like the next book that much but we shall see.

Audio book.

I know I've read this one before, probably a couple times even back in the day, but damn it was slightly painful getting through this one again.

The things I liked about this one? Aidan has blonde hair and he lives in San Francisco, one of the few (at least in early books) that doesn't live in the Carpathian Mountains/Europe. There's almost no blonde Carpathians, who knows why he does. And there's not a TON of evil vampire interactions in this book, just at the beginning and end, unlike some other Dark One books by Feehan. But this book reminds me of all of the not great stuff about books from the early 200s.

The audiobook was also not great, but I assume it's just old. I didn't like the narrators voice much which probably didn't help. If I'd enjoyed her voice I probably could have listened to it easier if it wasn't for the audibook. Also there was this like hum or something when she talked....I assume it's just a bad/older recording. Borrowed it online from my library. That said I doubt I would have ever finished it if I was reading it, Feehan can be super long winded sometimes, which is not fun if you aren't loving the book.

Aidan is super domineering. And Alexandria is super duper annoying. I literally had to check this book out like 4 times from the library and limp through it when I had absolutely nothing else to listen to in the car.

The only really good thing about this book was getting more Gregori. I love Gregori, he's the only reason I suffered through this book, I really want to re-read his book again and see how I like it. It used to be one of my favorite books back in the day.

I have read novels 1-3 because. I honestly don't understand how this series of books is so highly rated on Goodreads. They aren't good. The characters are dull and have zero chemistry. And it's the same types of characters with the same types of plots over and over. I really like The Scarletti Curse which is why I decided to try her other series. It's like they weren't written by the same person. I give up.

There is relatively little action in this book. The main focus being the relationship between Aidan & Alex. The interaction between them...the constant back and forth of Aidan trying to get Alex to obey his every command, and Alex whining about everything under the sun... got more than a bit repetitive by about page 200. And while i loved Aidan, Alex got on my last nerve. Having said that, it was an overall enjoyable, light read. Better than the previous book in the series.

Alexandria is super annoying and I want to smack her. I'd have given this book 5 stars rather than 4 if she hadn't been such a brat.

After her parents died in a tragic car accident, twenty-three year old Alexandria Houton has been left to take care of her younger brother. They live a difficult life, having to live in the poorest part of San Francisco where Alexandria constantly worries about her brother's safety. All romance has been placed on the backburner. Instead, she hopes to land a good job in order to give her brother a good life.
During a job interview, her brother gets kidnapped by a vampire. Desperate to find him, Alexandria ventures into the vampire's lair despite having no way to defeat him but hopes to buy her brother some time to escape. Luckily for the both of them a hunter appears, Adrian Savage, a Carpathian with ancient powers. He quickly defeats the vampire. He is about to destroy Alexandria as well, thinking that she had been turned into a vampire, when something stops him. He suddenly starts to see colour for the first time in centuries. That could only mean one thing... Alexandria is his lifemate. Now, he must protect her at all costs, but Alexandria does not accept Adrian's ways nor his claims.
When I finished the first novel in the series, Dark Prince, I was completely sure that I was never going to finish the series. After all, there are over thirty books (and counting) to this series and I have the notorious bad habit of never finishing a series even if I like it. This series might be an exception. This book was just as good as the first one (I skipped over the second book for now), and if the other books in the series are as good as these two are, I will likely finish them all.
I am beginning to see a bit of a formulaic plot structure to these books, but based on the genre of the books (supernatural romance), it is well suited. These books are the equivalent to eating candy. Are they formulaic? Sure. Is the romance the main focus of the plotline and the vampires are just there to add excitement to the plot? Again, yes. But, the reading experience is delightful and the words just leap right off the page.
Alexandria falls into the trap of not being a very bright protagonist. Her love for her brother is compelling, but it causes her to make absolutely stupid choices in order to assert her independence. Also, it allows for a bit more intrigue to the plot. After all, if characters always made the right decision 100% of the time, most of the time there would be no story. And Adrian also falls into the trap of being a bit two-dimensional with his only thoughts being Alexandria and keeping everyone safe. It would've been nice for him to have other thoughts.
Even so, I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait to read the other books in the series.
