absolutely crazy that all the way to end i could NOT bring myself to care about herondaisy :/ not just as a ship but also as characters i found them so boring? which is a shame because i think both of them were designed and plotted out well but the execution didn’t do it justice. it was like i could have just looked at their descriptions in the shadowhunter character books.
i loved everyone else and every other relationship. i think the other characters  had more interesting stories, and because we actually watched their relationships progress, their feelings were more convincing (including matthew’s feelings for cordelia). like i’m sorry herondaisy but i can’t just take ur word for it???
anyway! ily ghostwriter, ily thomastair, ily arianna (they may be established feelings but they are EXES and that’s always my bias).

my review is character centric because i actually wasn’t as hooked on the plot of this series as compared to the others. this really felt like something i appreciate more because i love the characters and already know the world building well. idk for sure but it doesn’t seem like something u can read on its own.

the end to another Cassandra Clare series. this book also rocked but the stakes just weren't that believable to me. a prince of hell has overtaken london and only a few shadowhunter kids are standing up to him seems pretty high stakes but I knew that everyone would be fine cause this is a prequel series and I know that the herondales and lightwoods are fine cause jace, Alec, and isabel are all alive n well. I'm just glas that the whole grace plotline ended well. I keep forgetting that these characters are like 16-18, 22 at the oldest and that their reasonings to secrecy are a lil dumb
I'm interested in clare's newsletter book since it's not YA to see how it differs from this since these series' are still pretty dark for YA

These books all follow the same format - but they're a comfortable and happy read for me each and every time. I'll be sad the day when I cant return to them. I laughed at all the witty banter and cried when she ripped my heart out, then cried again when she wrapped it up so sweetly.

The curse of disappointing/messy final books continues 😔 I still love love the world and the characters and the first half was actually pretty good. And the battle ??? she was crazy for that. Ending felt rushed and major conflicts resolved in a matter of pages- wish we’d gotten to be “on screen” for more of it. Lots of character reactions or fights happened off page. Tragic- second book best again (re: ballad). Very interesting.
