4.5/5! This was so good! It’s clear to see why this was voted one of the best books of the 20th century, the slow build tension is so satisfying and it reads so well given that it was published in 1938.

It’s clearly influenced so many modern thrillers. Loses a few points for me because I just felt that given how perfect the build up was, the ending maybe could’ve given a little more

I love the atmosphere. I did not like Mr. De Winter. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to like him though. The reason it matters to me is why was Mrs. De Winter so in love with him then?

The good thing about this was the feeling of suspense and foreboding throughout, but where it fell short was in making me really feel anything for the characters. There was an interesting twist near the end, when I thought I knew what was going to happen.
