Witches? Witch hunters? Fake marriage? Sign me up. This book was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. While it was a tad predictable I think the interesting way in which magic works and the banter between the main characters really made it worth it.

I did not expect to love the characters so much. Read it in less than a day.

I loved it so much I'm already reading book #2 in the Blood and Ash Series...!

3 star out of 5

Serpent and Dove were interesting but suffered from multiple problems, the pacing especially in the middle was awful, and I felt the characters were a little too much juvenile, sure the banter was fun in the beginning but quickly grows old I never thought I see a book with too much twist that after a while the twists loses their impact.,we find out Bishop is Louise le Blanc father w find out another woman is Reid's mother and so on,This book saving grace was its beginning and endings which were so much better.the magic system was fine, not flashy and excellent but I think it works for this story.

in a world where witches burn at the attack and where they attack poor innocent people, Louise le Blancand and Coco are withes in hiding from their own coven and the guards in the city, Louise ran away from home when her mother wanted to sacrifice her to kill the king and all of his children. when a robbery goes wrong and Louise is trapped by the especial guards who burn the witches , she embraces one named Reid in public, and to avoid embracement the bishop forces Reid and Louise to get married. Louise and Reid step by step grow to love each other, but when witches attack the church and Louise help defend it with her magic, Reid threw her out.and she is kidnapped by her mother. Reid with the help of Coco and his mother(who was a witch in the very same coven of Louise's mother) tries to rescue her, but Louise mother who also has bishop slits her throat and Reid in a desperate attempt to save her life uses magic(a male witch is unheard of in this world) and kills Bishop and uses his life to revive Louise.

I just simply could not read another page of Reid reciting bible verses everytime Lou breathed in his direction. If the book was just in Lou’s POV I might’ve been able to finish it but over all the dialogue and inner monologue in Reid’s POV just took me out of the story too much for me to go on.
