3.9 AVERAGE

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 if I could. Only because I would’ve loved more of the romance between the two MC’s but I do understand it is more of a slow burn.

Witch vs. Witch Hunter
Forced marriage trope
One bed trope
Enemies to lovers trope
Slow burn

The female main character Lou, is a witch but does not use/practice magic in order to survive not only the witch hunters but also… her mother, who wants to sacrifice her if she finds her.

Lou is known as a thief and is a good one at that, until one time, it all goes wrong. Lou ends up being blackmailed into marriage to the Captain of the Chasseur (witch hunters) in order to stay out of prison. However, this does somewhat benefit Lou as she will have the protection of the church against her mother.

What started as a forced, unwanted marriage.. turns into more as the two spend more time with each other and learn about one another’s pasts.

“I love you, Lou. I’ve never seen anyone savor anything the way you savor everything. You make me feel alive. Just being in your presence, it’s addictive. You’re addictive. It doesn’t matter you’re a witch. The way you see the world.. I want to see it that way too. I want to be with you always, Lou.”

“Where you go, I will go.”

I will say this teeters on the edge between YA and NA and should probably be considered NA as there is somewhat of a descriptive sex scene. This book certainly is not smut filled, but more of a slow burn with one sex scene.

I really enjoyed this book overall!

I read this book without knowing a single thing about it other than the back cover. I was instantly intrigued with it simply by seeing the cover page. The book itself lived up to all my expectations. It was a slow burn enemies to lovers and Lou was the epitome of I don’t care what others think about me. It was really refreshing to see a MFC that didn’t cower away from things and actually stood up to what she has done. Reid and hers relationship was just beautiful and did move very quickly the moment after they kissed.

High 3.5 ☆
dark hopeful medium-paced

If you are looking for a good romance with some supernatural/fantasy thrown in then this is the book for you (and honestly exactly what I was desperately in the need of reading when I picked this up). If you are looking for a well developed fantasy with top notch world building and complex magic system then this falls short on that front. The world/magic is still interesting but I would definitely classify this book as a romance over a fantasy novel.

Witches? Witch hunters? Fake marriage? Sign me up. This book was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. While it was a tad predictable I think the interesting way in which magic works and the banter between the main characters really made it worth it.

I did not expect to love the characters so much. Read it in less than a day.

I loved it so much I'm already reading book #2 in the Blood and Ash Series...!
