The start was sluggish and almost had me throwing in the towel, but the theme of witches and witchhunters combined with the intriguing bargaining magic system kept me going.

The pace eventually picked up, and by the end of the book it was hard to keep up with what was happening. However, the romance element fell flat for me. The forced marriage scenario between Lou and Reid was hard to buy into, and the rapid, unexplained falling-in-love felt forced and unconvincing. The FMC's habit of flicking her husband's nose? It was more irksome than endearing.

I powered through to the end, but I won't be picking up the sequels anytime soon.

Two years ago Louise Le Blanc left her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine. Lou lived off of what she could steal and only used magic when absolutely necessary for in the city of Ceasrine those who are found to be witches are burned. Sworn to the church as a Chasseur Reid Diggory's job revolves around keeping the city safe and hunting witches. Their paths cross and the two of them are forced to marry for the safety of them both. A witch on the run from her own coven and a Chasseur hell bent destroying witches. What happens is something neither of them were expecting.

This book was what I want a dark fantasy to be. It was highly engaging which new bits of the world and the past of both Reid and Lou. The role religion played in the book was super interesting as well. The side-characters had interesting plots as well. Overall just a really great fantasy/romance book. Highly recommend. I also can't wait to see where the next one takes us

my goodness me this book lives rent free in my mind.

the way the book embodies the real idea of enemies to lovers where its stretched out right until the very end of the book even then there's still some hard feelings towards one another.

I adore the tension between our main characters and the way it builds.
the plot twist had be on the edge of my seat reading this as though my life depended on it.

super excited to move onto the second book and looking forward to the trouble Lou gets into.

OMG

Ten words in and I was hooked. Couldn’t put it down except to order a physical copy. I was enthralled by this book and the characters. I cannot wait for the next book.

I picked this book because I liked the cover and I saw the word “witches.” I had no idea what the plot was but I was hooked from page one.

While I do love the book, I have to say IT IS NOT YOUNG ADULT. 12 years olds shouldn’t be reading it. It includes A LOT of cursing & one graphic scene. Another note on the cursing: this story takes place in some medieval era but the cursing is very modern! Other than that, this book also takes digs the Catholic Church a lot so I just feel like people should know that before so they don’t get pissed off.

Lou can go under the “I’m not like he other girls” category but she was still likeable. The characters have great character development (which is not something you normally see in trilogies until the last book). The world building was great (although you can argue than many things were just very convenient to the plot). The plot twists made me gasp and the best thing: it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger!

Anyways, read this book if you like:

Honestly some of the better fantasy romance writing but the plot is lacking. All of a sudden they’re just in love? No build up? Cool.

I'm not usually a YA reader, but this was just the book I needed right now. It wasn't a literary masterpiece, by any means, but I really really enjoyed it. The story kept me interested and I felt invested in the characters. I can't wait to read the next two books and I'm not looking for other supernatural books to read. This book sort of opened up a whole other world for me!

Me haces sentir vivo. Tu presencia... es adictiva. Eres adictiva. No importa si eres una bruja. El modo en que ves el mundo... yo también quiero verlo así. Quiero estar siempre contigo, Lou. Nunca más quiero separarme de ti."

Repitan conmigo: LOU NUESTRA RELIGIÓN

Necesito el 2do libro ya.
