Grow up pose’s plot was as lost as the main protagonist, it felt that it was grasping at many different concepts but never really emotionally invested in one. The characters mostly felt like caricatures, the snarky bestfriend group, the overprotective mothers and the early mid life crises protagonist.
I kept reading because not many chick lit novels are based in Vancouver, nice to have a lay of the land. It read breezy, and inconsequential. Nothing much to gain here.

I really wasn't a big fan of the main character.

AHHHHH the representation i need and have wanted for so long!!!

An emotional and heart-warming journey about learning to be brave enough to chase your dreams and being true to yourself along the way. With a charming and unforgettable cast of characters, and a plot that will make you feel all the feels, GROWN-UP POSE is a can't-miss spring read that you need on your TBR.

Anusha has lived her life so far exactly as her parents wanted her to. She married young to the first man she dated, had a beautiful daughter, and did everything she could to be the perfect wife and mother. But now, she realizes that she's starting to look a lot like her own mom. And is that the role model she wants to be for her daughter? Eager to do some soul searching, she leaves her husband and creates a list of things she must do to become the kind of grown-up she wants to be.

Anusha is a great protagonist, messy and confused and full of desire that she doesn't understand. The plot is a little tangled at times, but so is Anu, so it worked. I love the own voices representation in this book, and the message at the end is really nice. Definitely an enjoyable read!

Thanks to Berkley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Aaaaa I don’t enjoy rating low, but this was a 2 to, at the most, 2.5 for me. I didn’t even like it enough to be able to pull a quote I was drawn to! To be fair, this isn’t my usual genre and I know that buuuut as a kid I did like realistic fic a lot so I thought I’d try.

This is an adult contemporary (I wouldn’t call it a romance, though the main characters relationships are part of her journey) about 30yr old Anusha, less than a year separated from Neil and mother to 5yr old Moana-loving Kanika when we meet her. Changing her understanding/treatment of marriage/romantic relationships and motherhood is part of her journey, introducing her like this has a point. This is a woman-finding-herself story, with bits of trying new things, meeting new people, a yoga studio, etc. All fine.

The character did grow somewhat by the end and I tried to be like “okay, she’s SUPPOSED to be irritating and sooo wrong and misguided right now, learning she’s wrong will be part of the journey,” but there was just too much. I get that stumbling a lot is realistic, but Anu kept having these “revelations” and I was just sitting here raising my eyebrows because there’s only so much of “this person is trying so hard to be an adult instead of just being an adult” one can take. Maybe it would work for a different person. I’m pretty sure I’m not the right audience for this!

Anu’s relationship with her parents changing was something that was nice though. Even if I thought even that was... ridiculously slow. I did like reading nicknames like Anu and Kannu lol.

The intro scene WAS funny and I had decent hopes... but nope! Oh well.
