Surprisingly lighthearted for a book with this title. I think Sones is better when she keeps a breezy tone. I found Ruby an annoying main character but I like seeing how things played out for her. I was pleasantly surprised by the end.

I loved this book in middle school!

This is an amazing book and it is something that has happened in my life just recently. I didn't think it would be an appropriate title to read after what had happened in my life, but I was surprised Sonya Sones has really thought a lot about the thoughts and feelings of someone that has gone through the loss of a parent. The book is very moving and you follow Ruby on a journey from the loss of a parent to the gain of a parent.

I really enjoyed how Ruby was really against the idea of moving half way across America in order to be with her father who she hasn't seen since she was very little. Throughout the beginning of the book you find out that Ruby's aunt always took her to the cinema on her birthdays to see her father who is a big Hollywood actor. I loved the journey that Ruby went on to find where she belonged within her father's life and the people around him. She has a lot to deal with as well as travelling across the country and then she has to start a new school where she thinks she doesn't belong.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book as it felt like the author really understood how Ruby would feel about the events that had happened in her life. I loved the way that there was pure emotion throughout the whole book and what happened throughout Ruby's life not just with her family but with her boyfriend and her best friend. If you haven't read any Sonya Sones before then read this and your want to read others by her. I know I have.

Typical Sones fare, it is written in easy to read verse. It is the story of Ruby, who's mother has just died. She is now leaving the only family she's ever known, not to mention her best friend and boyfriend, to go live in Hollyweird with the father she's never met; who just happens to be a famous actor. Her attempts to deal with her grief, loss, and her anger with her father are by turns touching and amusing.

Pretty good book.I liked it when I first read it a few years ago when i was like 12.

This is a cute book for teens or preteens. It is a quick read. It took me about two hours to read the whole thing. It is about a fifteen year old girl whose mother dies. She is sent to LA to live with her very famous movie star father, whom she has never met.

this was lovely! I loved "stop pretending" so I knew I'd love this one too.
ofc I hate that the mom died but ruby also got a good dad. idk if it's bc my father is a complete piece of garbage and so many fathers are too but when I see a fictional dad who is actually nice it makes me rly happy.
I especially loved the last few chapters I cried! also loved her dad and max.
