This book got confusing because of its writing style. I decided this year not to blame myself if old books did that.

Interesting book with a lot to say about human nature. The scary bits were really scary. I feel like if I was reading it back then, my mind would be blown by the social commentary. And of course this book is in response to Coral Island so it's good to start there.

I don't think this book is racist I think it's sending up racist books of the past. However, its characters are and it assumes readers will be, so it hasn't "aged well".

Piggy is a bullying victim I actually have time for. An intelligent boy, a boy who wants to do things his way. So much better and more well rounded than the saintly victims of my last two books! He was relatable and he was my favourite character.

This is my second time reading this book, and I haven’t read it since high school around 15 years ago 🥴 I loved it then, and I’m so glad my teenage brain did not deceive me, because I still love this book so deeply now.

After just roasting the last book I read to the pits of hell for being too reflective and being about nothing, I fully understand my hypocrisy here 😂 as I said in my last review and will reiterate now: a book can be reflective while also still being entertaining.

While I hated overanalyzing most stories in English class, I really did appreciate listening to this audiobook and remembering things we had discussed when reading this back then.

This is a fantastic story of survival and a mirror of society. How quickly we fall into madness, savagery, and loss of morality in the instance of life or death. Not everything is black and white—there’s so much gray in between. No one is perfectly good, no one is perfectly evil. A display of the terrible loss of innocence, and I can wax on about themes, metaphors, comparisons, what the characters represent, etc., but I think we all get the picture—we all read this in high school. Very glad to have revisited this!
