This is definitely not for the faint-hearted, as some of the chapters in this book were hard for me to get though.

The book focuses around Amber and her desire to marry the rich Mr. Parrish so she find what she thinks is true happiness: money. I don’t really understand why she chose to go for marrying rich like some Jane Austen novel, but I suppose with her character it makes sense. She was clearly a villain in this story, and they way she built her lies on deceit disgusted me.

This book also highlights physical and verbal abuse, and even after finishing the last chapter I was haunted by what the characters (especially Daphne, Mr. Parrish’s wife) went through. But the thing that bothers me is that I don’t think it’s good message to spread that people deserve domestic abuse as a consequence. I’ll just leave it at that.

I did like Daphne as a character, how she was painted as a victim and then what happened as the story progressed. I loved her relationship with her children, and she was an empowering character when I finished the book.

I do wish that the plot could’ve gone differently. I have my own fancies about what I wish happened in the book, but it’s only my opinion.

Incredibly intriguing from front to back. Slower moving for the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book but as soon as you find yourself getting bored the twists start to hit and I couldn’t put it down. The DV was intense to read about, but if you can get past it the end will not disappoint.

If you like Gone Girl you will love this one. Unlikable narrator, lots of twists and turns, no one quite as they seem. Good ending.

Sooo exciting. I mean I was constantly intrigued and wanting to keep reading. I like the message it conveys as well.

“If something is to good to be true, it probably is”
A great pager turner, but the plot was pretty predictable.
