long story short this book is way too long, extremely repetitive, and full of twists that don't make a ton of sense, simply for shock, or are just... weird.
enjoyed the first two, wasn't crazy fond of the novella, and this one just... meh.

I have been trying to process all my thoughts on this final book in the series and I honestly haven’t really decided how I feel about it. I know I didn’t dislike it, but I don’t think its what I wanted from the final book
I guess my biggest complaint is that there were a lot of things added into the story but I don’t know how they changed the outcome or why they were put in. For example we see that Paedyn finally breaks down and kills Blair. Go girl, way to get justice for A. But then in the final chapter we see Blair is alive and living in another city? Literally what was the point of adding that in? Just let her be dead. Also, Why did Paedyn have to be a lost princess? It really didn’t change the outcome, unless that is the only reason Kitt attacked her, but we all know thats not true… because he was freaklishy obsessed with his brother and would have tried to kill Pae so he could have Kai to himself.
I also didn’t love the three trials to prove her worth. That felt too much like book 1. And as much as I didn’t like this storyline, the trials themselves went so quickly. They were a huge part of book 1, and honestly in this book it just felt like a way to pass the time? As we know from the last few chapters, Kitt did want Paedyn to die during the trials, but they went so fast it never really felt like she was in real danger.
The one thing I really missed was the emotional connection. Maybe its because I didn’t reread the first two books, but when Kai accidentally killed Kitt I felt nothing. I didn’t cry at the loss, or Kai’s grief, it just felt flat. Also that felt like a cheap out, the author couldn’t decide if Kitt could be saved, so his death was accidental. Yes, Kai was defending Paedyn, but more trying to distract Kitt and refocus him, his goal wasn’t to kill him. I was kinda hoping for a bit of a “battle” and Kai formally choosing Pae, or at least something a bit more exciting and heart-wrenching.
Don’t get me wrong, I demolished this book and binge read it in one day, and I love the entire trilogy together, I just don’t think book 3 had the extra “something” to make it special. There was nothing actively wrong with the story, I just didn’t love it like I did book 1.
I did enjoy that we got to read Kitt’s letters near the end of the story. Since we didn’t get any chapters from his POV, getting to see his dissent into madness and his true intentions at the end was helpful to building his characters breaking point. It was a real bummer not seeing anything from his perspective until the end, I completely understand why it was that, there would have been too many spoilers, but it just made me feel so disconnected from his character and not care about him at all.
VERY happy that Pae and Kai got their HEA. They were a great couple, they grew together, they accepted each other, and there was real love between them. It didn’t feel forced, or fake. It hurt watching them be torn apart because of Kitt, but I also loved how it played into “duty” and “accepting their fates”, while they still found stolen moments to be together. They make me happy.

i did enjoy this, but not as much as i wanted to. i just feel like so many things were left unanswered or straight up didn’t make sense. mak?? done soooo dirty. also a lot of things regarding kitt didn’t add up. as much as i do love paedyn and kai… i think i was expecting something else from them based on how reckless ended. and there were parts between them that i feel like i should’ve enjoyed more, but they unfortunately just felt off to me :/ i am happy with the conclusion of their story as a couple though (plus kai’s quotes are 😍)

This book exceeded my expectations. The plot was interesting and it didn't feel like a wash, rinse, and repeat. The twists were honestly perfection and kept me reading while making me love the characters even more than I already had. You can definitely tell Lauren Roberts' grew as a writer immensely when comparing this to her/the first book in this series.
Although this book is the best out of the 3, my favorite will be Reckless. Regardless, I highly recommend finishing out the series if you read the previous novels.
